Janice Darlene Enfield, known to all as Darlene, moved on from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2023. She was born in Golden City, MO, her mother was Clarice Buzzard, and had fond memories of her early rural life. She would often tell stories about life during that time and how they used to have to do things.

In the early 1950's she moved with her family to Kansas City, MO where she spent her childhood. When she became older, she became adept as a Punch Card Operator, the predecessor to the modern computer. When she retired, she was a manager for the USPS at the main post office in KC,Mo.

During this era, Darlene met and married Richard L. Enfield. She always loved listening to him sing and play guitar, for he was a musician by trade. Richard also worked for KC Parks and Recreation. She always enjoyed visiting the animals he cared for at the KC Zoo. She mostly enjoyed the great apes and always felt a special connection.

They had three children (Frank, Christine and Cathy) and remained in Kansas City. They also had 4 grandsons, Dustin, Jesse, Brandon and Sean and 8 great grandchildren. She was also survived by her sister Joan McIntyre and 2 nephews, Mike and Stephen, along with 5 great nieces and nephews. Darlene loved her family so very, very much.

Son, Franklin is not only a NICU RN saving thousands of babies over the years, but he was also a master mechanic. His wife, Teri, is also an RN and mostly worked Labor and Delivery.

Christine, the dancer and artist, made many quilts and creations that Darlene meticulously cared for and adored. She was also a KC Chiefette for several years. And Darlene loved those Chiefs!!! She also loved to tell stories about Christine's career in medicine as well. Cathy stayed close to home as she was born with some IDD issues that required some extra care. However, that extra care did not stop her and Darlene was so proud of the eloquent and strong leader Cathy became during her career.

Over the years, the family had many cats and dogs that were under Darlene's care. Gypsy was her last therapy cat companion who assisted her so much. Gypsy would lay right next to her, giving her so much comfort. She often would tell that the first thing she'd do after passing, was to get to the Rainbow Bridge to see her pet family!

Even when illness and injury made Darlene bed bound, she remained a very strong woman. A ruthless fighter until the end, for herself, her family and the IDD community. Darlene left peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and the great care at KC Hospice House. Her legacy will carry on by those she has left behind.

Rest in Peace Darlene

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to People First of Missouri in Darlene's name. Thank you!
