Annie Eliza Derickson was born July 9, 1869, at Blue Earth City, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Eliza Clement Emerson. Mrs. Derickson came with her parents and brothers and sisters to Steel Creek (now Dorsey), Nebraska, in the Spring of 1880. The Emersons came to Nebraska in a covered wagon, drawn by a team of four cows. On her father's place the first Dorsey Post Office was built, the first hotel and the first cemetery, and soon Mrs. Derickson's father donated the land for the first Dorsey School at which the first church services were held.

She was united in marriage to Samuel Derickson on March 3, 1886, at the home of her parents at Dorsey, by the Rev. D. W. Rosenkrans.

Mrs. Derickson, her husband and children lived in Dorsey and in Niobrara, Nebraska, and briefly in New Mexico, before finally settling in Dorsey.

Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Derickson moved to O'Neill, Nebraska to live with her daughter, Jeanette Derickson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Derickson were held on March 3, 1966, at the Methodist Church in O'Neill, Nebraska, and they were conducted by the Reverend Melvin Cammack.

Survivors include her children, Georgia Butterfield and Jeanette Derickson, both of O'Neill, John Derickson of Lynch, Nebraska, and Olive (Mrs. Wallace Lundeen) of Lincoln, Nebraska. Four children preceded her in death: Edward, Sadie, and William Derickson, and Marian (Mrs. Oral Pickering).

She was survived by three brothers: Ernest Emerson on Auburn, Washington, Ray Emerson on Oakdale, Nebraska, and Ross Emerson of West Point, Nebraska. She was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
