Longtime Alaska residents Gwendolyn A. Frary, 33, and Jeffery D. Gustafson, 40, died Aug. 27 near Lake Louise from injuries suffered in a plane crash. Services were at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1145 C St., with the Rev. Phillip Axelson officiating. Burial followed at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial gathering followed at Kincaid Chalet.

Ms. Frary was born Jan. 21, 1961, in Anchorage. She attended Rabbit Creek Elementary and Service High schools. She worked for Alaska Airlines for 15 years and maintained a flying business and fish-spotting operation. She was a pilot for Alaska Air Taxi, and most recently, for Rust's Flying Service of Lake Hood. Ms. Frary held many licenses, including commercial, instrument, and multi-engines|land and sea. Her family said: "Gwen's love of life was flying. Her flying enabled her to spend most of her time discovering and exploring Alaskan wilderness and wildlife for which she had endless energy. Prince William Sound was one of her favorite places. She loved the mountains, lakes, and beauty of the meadows filled with wild flowers. She took pleasure in watching the animals and sea life. She saw wonder and beauty in the simplest of Mother Nature and often carried her precious treasures home for someone. "Although Gwen was comfortable in her Levi's and hip boots in the Bush, she was just as comfortable dressed for a formal affair in town. She enjoyed evenings out with her friends and family and attending the theater. Her family was the center of her existence. Gwen truly cared and showed that love every day with her family as well as her friends. She was always at the heart of teasing and jokes and usually laughed the loudest when she was on the receiving end."

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Wilma and Ken Spearin, and brother, Jim, of Anchorage; sisters, Amber Cabana of Homer and Leigh Barovsky of Issaquah, Wash.; grandmother, Leonia Setters of Independence, Ore.; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Burrell L. Frary, and grandfather and grandmother, Burrell T. and Louise Frary.
