Ruth Ann Bishop, born December 4th, 1947, was 75 years old when she went to be with the Lord and her beloved late husband, Steven Bishop Sr. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charlotte and Dale Rivett; her brothers, Kenneth and Bill Sparks; and her beloved husband, Steve Bishop Sr. She is survived by her sister, Cheryl Rivett; her sons, Steven Bishop and Kevin Bishop and their wives, Alexis Bishop and Arnica Buckner; and her grandchildren, Owen Bishop, Lily Bishop, Callum Bishop and Aven Bishop.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ruth moved to California in late childhood with her parents and her sister, Cheryl Rivett; and accepted Christ as her savior in her teens. She met her husband, Steven Bishop, in junior high school and went on to marry him in 1966, after graduating high school.
Ruth worked several jobs throughout the course of her life including as the office manager at consulting firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton in their Northern Virginia office. The work that she found most fulfilling and meaningful however, was through her lay counseling work with loved ones and fellow congregation members at the churches she attended. She and Steve Sr. enjoyed counseling several couples through couples' workshops with the church.
Ruth and Steve Sr. moved to Richmond, Virginia late in life to be near their children and grandchildren. They faithfully attended Grove Avenue Baptist Church.
Ruth's love, loyalty and devotion to Steve Sr. and her children was unwavering. She built strong connections with everyone she met. God worked through her, both as a witness for Christ and as an example of God's support and love through the relationships she built. Ruth was gifted in making sure everyone felt seen, heard and understood. She was a trusted confidant to many.
Ruth Bishop is immeasurably loved by her children and grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed.
Ruth Ann Bishop died on April 11, 2023, of complications from a medical procedure. Ruth was a steadfast believer in Christ and currently rejoices in heaven today, reunited at last with her love, Steve Bishop Sr.
Friends and family will join to celebrate her life at Bliley's Funeral Home, 6900 Hull St Rd., Richmond, VA 23224 at 10:00 AM on April 22nd, 2023.
