Beyer, Gene 8/27/1943 - 3/30/2021 Benson, AZ
Gene Edwin Beyer passed peacefully from this life into his eternal life on March 30, 2021. He was born August 27, 1943 to Albert and Charlotte Beyer in Des Moines, Iowa, the oldest of 4 children. After his family moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, he met Joyce Rozenboom. Gene joined the Air Force upon graduating high school and proposed to Joyce while he was serving overseas. On August 16, 1963 they were married. Their first child, Sandra, was born while they were stationed in Clovis, New Mexico. Upon getting discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Wyoming, Michigan where their second child, Gary was born. Gene and Joyce eventually moved to Bauer, Michigan where they lived for almost 38 years. They raised their children to love the Lord, worked hard to provide a Christian education and instilled a strong work ethic in them. Once their kids moved out of the home, Gene answered the call to ministry. He attended Reformed Bible College and in 1989 became chaplain at Ottawa County jail. He and Joyce worked tirelessly with inmates, telling them about Jesus. They did that together until Joyce was called home in 2002 after a 2-year battle with cancer. Gene continued in the ministry until he retired in 2004 and moved to Benson, Arizona. There he met Bonnie whom he married in 2006. Gene still preached occasionally until dementia forced him to give that up. Bonnie loved and cared for him until the Lord called him home. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years - Joyce Beyer, his parents - Albert and Charlotte Beyer, his sister - Mary Kinnisten, an infant brother, Joyce's parents - Garret and Henrietta Rozenboom and his son-in-law - Cris Nederveld. He is survived by his wife - Bonnie Beyer; children - Sandra Nederveld and Gary (Amy) Beyer; siblings - John (Stephanie) Beyer, Julie Aumueller, and Phillip Kinnisten; grandchildren – Ross (Marissa) Beyer, Adam Beyer, Mitchell Nederveld and Jordon Nederveld; and one great-grandchild – Aiden Gene Beyer. The funeral and visitation will be held at Bauer Christian Reformed Church, 4958 Bauer Rd, Hudsonville, MI on Saturday, April 17. The family will welcome visitors beginning at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 11:30 AM.
