Obituary
Cumberland, MD – Sara Jane (Dickerhoof) Mason, 91, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
Jane was born on January 27, 1932 to Carl L. Dickerhoof and Marion Monroe Starkey who preceded her in death. She was also the stepdaughter of the late George C. Fey, Sr.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Edward J. Mason; and her brothers: Richard Deckerhoff, Frederick Fey, Phillip Scott Fey, Richard Deckerhoff and Lawrence "Bud" Dickerhoff and wife Shirley, who was her not only her brother but also her friend and mentor; and her sister-in-law: Gladys Deckerhoff; and brother-in-law: David Lynn Deahl.

Jane and Ed were truly blessed with three children: Edward Michael Mason, Kathy Mason Liller and husband Steve, and Patrick "Scott" Mason and wife Beth. The wonderment and joy of her life was enhanced by the gift of grandchildren: Stephen E. Liller and wife, Megan; Meghan Liller Forcucci and husband, Charles; Sara Mason; Tucker Mason; Taylor Mason; and Maxwell Mason. Additionally to this perfect list are her great granddaughters, Etta Elisabeth Forcucci, Magnolia Monroe Forcucci, and Della Ray Liller. Jane was very proud and happy to be blessed with these beautiful, independent little girls. Jane is also survived by her sister: Annette Fey Deahl, who she loved very much. She leaves great love to her very special nieces and nephews who have always held a very wonderful place in her life and heart. (Thank you all and Thank God for my life.)

Jane was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1950. She later received her associate of Arts degree and R.N. degree from Allegany College of Maryland.
She was employed by Sacred Heart Hospital and later as a public health nurse at the Allegany County Health Department from which she retired after 20 years of service. While employed by the health department she was allowed to form a clinic that would provide for physicals and any needed health care under medical direction of Dr. Sue Raver, to the boys in the Forestry Camp Program. Immunizations and all follow ups were provided by the Boy's Forestry camp (Adolescent Clinic) personnel. These boys were under the supervision of the Juvenile Services Administration. This was a source of great pride to Jane and she felt that it could have been an opportunity to help the boys do well in their future endeavors. Jane was also one of the RNs at the Health Department to serve as a relief nurse in the Allegany County Public School System. Sharing her life not only with her family, Jane had many memorable times and support from her friends and co-workers who were a great source of comfort and strength to her when needed.

Jane was a past president of the Junior Women's Civic Club for the year 1965-66, was a lifelong member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and later the Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary. She served on the local lay board of the March of Dimes and received a Gold Red Cross pin for working with Red Cross Blood Collection Program.

She will be dearly missed
"Lord Take my hand and lead me Home."
Services will be private and interment will be in S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery at a later date.
