ADAMS -- Richard Francis Gerber, 53, of Adams died on March 11, 2008 unexpectedly at the family farm.

He was born Aug. 31, 1954 in Austin to Robert and Margaret (Retterath) Gerber. Richard graduated from Adams High School in 1972 and received his Associate of Arts degree from Austin Community College in 1974. Richard married Marlys Johnson on Sept. 5, 1981 at the United Church of Grand Meadow. After college Richard took over the family farm near Adams, Minn.; and for the next 30 years he farmed with his brother Jerry. Richard was a member of the United Church of Grand Meadow, where he served on the church council. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling. Richard felt that it was very important to spend as much time as possible with his family.

Richard is survived by his spouse, Marlys Gerber, Adams; children, Justin Gerber, Adams, Andrea Gerber, Adams, Eric Gerber, Adams; parents, Robert and Margaret Gerber, Adams; brothers and sisters: Barbara (John) Garvey, Wayzata, Minn., Gerald (Dorothy) Gerber, Adams, Cindy (John) Thomas, Lake City, Minn.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne (Bonnie) Johnson, Elkton, Minn., Charolette (Wayne) Zimmerman, Glenwood, Minn., Lloyd (Jan) Johnson, LeRoy, Minn., Linda Lecy, Spring Valley, Minn., Cheryl (Steve) Fields, Mora, Minn., Kevin (Karen) Johnson, Harmony, Minn., Curtis Johnson, Austin, Randy Johnson (special friend Sarah), Grand Meadow, Minn., Many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Helen Johnson; and brother-in-law, Floyd Lecy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2008 at United Church of Grand Meadow with Pastor Karen Ashton officiating. Interment will be in the Marshall Lutheran Cemetery in Adams. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7:30 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church.
