Born Sept. 26, 1924, in Newtown, he was the son of the late Freeman and Florence Simms.
He married Clara B. Shanks on July 27, 1946, in Logansport. She died April 13, 2006.
Mr. Simms was a self-employed insurance adjuster and formerly owned Flagtown County Bar.
He was a member of West Point United Methodist Church and Logansport Masonic Lodge. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1945, during World War II, as a military policeman in Normandy and northern France.
Surviving is a daughter, Kandace Simms of West Point.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Lorilei Simms of West Point, and a honorary granddaughter, Juanita Prather of Otterbein.
Preceded in death by a son, James Simms, in 2003, and 3 brothers, James, Benny and Hubert.
