Mavis Henry, 95, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Ron Haws, Todd Sanders, Dewayne Taylor, Terry Carney, Jason Benefield and Harold Benefield.
Mavis McPherson Henry was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Lillian to Trezevant Carl McPherson and Marietta Wallace McPherson.
After graduating cum laude from Central High School, Mavis led a full life, caring for her family and working in many jobs. She was devoted to her parents and then became the matriarch of her extended family. Mavis was a well-respected member of Temple Baptist Church.
Whether by boat or plane, by car or train, Mavis enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Europe, but her greatest joy was her family.
Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her husband, Arrie E. Henry; sister, Mildred Ash; brother, Carl McPherson Jr.
Everyone loved "Grandma." She will be sorely missed by all, but the angels in heaven needed her more.
Survivors: Daughters, Lynda Benefield and husband, Leland, Mary Sue Karemaa and husband, Aadu; son, Jim Henry and wife, Lou Nan; granddaughters, Lesa Smith and husband, Trey, Laura Geyer and husband, Jeff, Melanie Elizabeth Henry; great-granddaughters, Ashley Renee Shriver, Shelby Lynn Geyer, Emily Nicole Geyer, and Kelley Ann Geyer; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
