John (Johan) came from Orasaken, Hogsbyn, (Mellerud) Dalsland, Sweden on a side-wheeler 31 May 1891. The ship ran into an iceberg and bent the shaft, they were delayed at sea for 4-6 weeks. He arrived in New York on the third or fourth of July and thought the Americans were crazy because of all the wild celebrations.
His son August indicated that John & two brothers (August & Carl) came together from Mellerud. His son Roger indicated he came alone and from Orasaken.
Carl had his name changed when he came to the U.S. to Jansson. He convinced his brothers August and John to change their names accordingly.

John settled in Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas and worked as a Caller; Loads and unloads rail cars and or trucks, in a goods depot; calls out particulars of incoming and outgoing consignments, from labels on goods, to goods checkers in preparation for their removal from platform or wagon by goods porters.
He was naturalied in the District Court of Atchison, Kansas on 22 Mar 1895.
He married Annie Mathilda (Minnie) Larsson on 17 May 1896. They hand 8 children, the first dying at birth.
In 1900 census John is a Locomotive Fireman in Atchison.
In or about 1905, John, Annie and thier 3 children relocated to Whatcom County, Washington. They purchased a five acre lot (now owned by the Fenstras) next to Annie's brother Fritchof Larsson's 14 acres.
In 1917 they moved to Fairview Montana where they lived and farmed for several years before moving in 1918 to North Dakota and then in 1921 back to Greenbluff in Spokane County, Washington.
