Mr. Klug, 88, formerly a longtime Lewiston resident, died Monday (March 10, 2008) at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.
Ignatius John Klug was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Caledonia. He served in the Army. In 1949 he married Ruth Ellen Spahr in Ortonville, Minn. The couple lived in Wykoff and Caledonia before making their home in Lewiston in 1952. Mr. Klug was employed by Lewiston Auto, assembling and delivering farm machinery. He also worked for Winona Sand and Gravel and Biesanz Sand and Gravel. He later became a construction worker and heavy equipment operator, and was a member of Local 49. In retirement, he was employed as a custodian at Enterprise Rest Area. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and enjoyed tinkering in his shop.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ann (Terry) Schwanke of Rochester; five sons, Charles (Susan) of Eagan, Minn., Randy (Frances) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kenneth (Susan) of Lewiston, Daniel (Susan) of Zimmerman, Minn., and William (Sandy) of Brentwood, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Alvira and Winnifred Klockeman of Fountain, Rose Town of Ely, Minn., and Everilda Klug of Harmony. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church. There will be a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
