Military funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock for Lt. (jg) Delbert Lawrence Gideon. U. S. N.. who was killed in a plane crash on July 31, 1944, at Funa Futi, Ellice Islands, near Australia, and originally Interred there. Last week his body arrived in Gettysburg from the first boat shipment of World War II dead from the Pacific theater. Lt. (jg) Warren Brann. U. S. N. Ordnance Planning Officer, Philadelphia Naval Yards, accompanied the body to Gettysburg as the official escort. Lt. Gideon is survived by his widow, the former Miss Sara Black, Baltimore street, Gettysburg: one son, his mother, one brother and six sisters. His brother, Harry E. Gideon, Ponca City, Okla., was present for the services. Brief services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ralph R. Gresh, pastor of St. James Lutheran church, Gettysburg, at the Bender funeral home with graveside military rites and interment conducted at the National cemetery by the Albert J. Lentz post. No. 202, American Legion, Gettysburg. The pallbearers were Harry D. Ridinger, Willis Weikert, Paul Spangler, C. Leslie Fair. Jr., William G. Weaver and Wilbur Plank, all ex-service men. M. Sgt. William L. Baldwin, Gettysburg, sounded taps.
