The Snyder family came west from Pennsylvania in the spring of 1888. They settled on their homestead just north of what then was a sizable dry land lake which later became Swan Lake in Swan Lake Precinct.
Hiram Snyder was appointed a U.S. Postmaster and the post office was housed in his "not to large" sod house which was built immediately on arrival of the Snyder family from Pennsylvania. The name of that Post Office was Eureka, Nebraska.
