Donald Walter Schuchardt, age 91, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Donald Walter Schuchardt, son of Walter Schuchardt and Pearl Walter Schuchardt, was born at home on August 25, 1931 in Glendale, Illinois. Donald Schuchardt grew up on the family farm and assisted his father with farm work. He graduated from Pope County (Illinois) High School in 1949. At age 20, Donald enlisted in the USA Air Force and served four years. Donald Schuchardt married the love of his life, Mary Alice English, August 16, 1953. Their first daughter, Karen Sue, was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, while he was stationed there in the Air Force.

He then attended Southern Illinois University (SIU) and graduated from the first engineering class in 1960 with honors. His senior year he was awarded a Western Electric scholarship. While attending SIU, their second daughter, Janet Kay, was born in 1959. After graduation Donald worked for Western Electric Research Center in Princeton, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, their third daughter, Lynn Mary, was born. He transferred to the Chicago area in 1965 and the family moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois. While working with Bell Laboratories, Donald was awarded 2 patents.

He served the Lord as choir member, Deacon and Elder at 1st Christian Church. He was transferred to Oklahoma City in 1983 and finished his career at AT&T. After retiring from AT&T, Donald became a volunteer Building Superintendent at City Church for 18 years. At the time of his passing, he served as an Usher and Greeter at Victory Church, as his health would allow. He also enjoyed his fellowship with the VIP group.

Donald graduated from the Master Gardener program at Oklahoma State and maintained an immaculate yard until his health failed him. He won Yard of the Month several times. Donald served his neighborhood as President of Home Owners. He was an active member of the neighbor garden club. His hobbies included 1960's Mustangs, gardening, refinishing antiques, watching OSU sports and OKC Thunder. He enjoyed playing games with family.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl Schuchardt, his sisters, Mary Louise Yonts and Loretta Ann Schuchardt, and his daughter, Karen Sue Schuchardt.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice, daughters, Janet (Steve) Rhoades and Lynn Mary (Andy) Hughett, and his granddaughters, Karen West Rhoades and Sarah Ann Rhoades.
