She was born April 17, 1927 in Charlesburg, daughter of the late Roman & Veronica (Steiner) Keuler.
She married Arnold A. Hertel on April 3, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton.
Bernice was named Outstanding President of the 6th District of Wisconsin VFW Auxiliary in 1966. She was the author of the book Piece by Peace which led to her worldwide involvement with COPE Ministry.
Survivors include her husband Arnold; 8 children: Audrey (Nubby) Miller of New Holstein, Lynn (Paul) Baumgart of Madison, Edward (Jo) Hertel of Davis, CA, Jean (Henry) Grimm of Green Bay, Rose (Ken) Harris of Nevada City, CA, Herb (Ruth) Hertel of Appleton, Julie (Jim) Meyer of Chilton, Patrick (Vickie) Hertel of Southlake, TX; a daughter-in-law: Maria Hertel of Arnold, CA; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister: Cleta (Al) Woelfel of Chilton; and 2 sisters-in-law: Vivian Hertel and Marion Fannin, both of Chilton. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by a son: Daniel Hertel; and 2 brothers: Jerome & Glen Keuler.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 PM on Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
