Lt. Col. William D. Tatsch, retired from the U.S. Army, was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Eldorado. He lived in San Angelo and graduated from Lakeview High School and Angelo State College. In 1942, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and in October, married Ruthe E. Clarke while in the Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Okla. A combat veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater.
Lt. Col. Tatsch taught law at USMA from 1948-'52, and, after earning his MBA from Harvard in 1960, was assigned as an instructor at the Army Management School in Fort Bevoir, Va., from which he retired in 1968.
Following retirement from the military, he briefly held a position with Tandy Corporation before becoming a stock broker with Rauscher-Pierce. He retired a second time in the '90s.
After retiring again, he devoted himself to development of a Merry Maids franchise, two restaurants, and being a member of Action Ambassadors of Fort Worth. His hobbies included amateur golf and being a master bridge player.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruthe Evelyn Clarke Tatsch.
Survivors: Children, William D. Tatsch Jr. and his wife, Eleanor, Stephen R. Tatsch and his wife, Gail, Sandra Roy and her husband, William D. Roy III; grandchildren, William Roy IV, Tracy Roy, Shawn Roy, William D. Tatsch III, Michael Kreeger; great-grandchildren, Montana Diego Diaz, Wyatt Gabriel Roy, Kaytlynne Shyanne Schaeffer, Kennedy Elizabeth Roy, Collin Marie Tatsch; brothers, Rudolph Tatsch, Vernon Tatsch and Alan Tatsch; and nephews and nieces.
