A shocking case of suicide at Fort Russell, on Saturday evening at seven o'clock, Lieutenant George Geddes Smith, 23 Infantry, deliberately blew his brains out with a revolver. Deceased had been laboring under mental depression for a couple of weeks, and the dreadful act terminating his life, is attributed to the results of this depression. He was a young man of fine talents, and had many friends in and out of his regiment. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the 23d Infantry October 1st, 1873. He had served in the navy prior to this, with an honorable record. The remains will be buried to-day at the Post cemetery with military honors.
