Harold E. Cain, 74, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had been in ill health the past month.

Born in White County near Round Grove in 1910, he had lived in Lafayette since 1942, coming here from White County.

He was engaged in farming all of his life, retiring in 1979.

His marriage was Dec. 27, 1938, to Mary Catherine Quigg, who survives.

Mr. Cain was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Tippecanoe County Pomona Grange, Plains Grange, and a charter member of West Point Lions Club.

Surviving with the widow are two sons, John E. Cain of Lafayette and David J. Cain of Stuttgart, Germany; three daughters, Margaret M. Kochell of Lafayette, Mrs. Robert M. (Veronica) Mount of Brookston and Mrs. David S. (Rebecca) Prugh of Ellettsville; four brothers, John Edward Cain of Brookston, James H. Cain of Lafayette, Robert Cain of Fruitland Park, and Steven Cain of Brookville, Fla. Also four sisters, Mrs. Olin (Lucille) Morris of Lady Lake, Mrs. James (Rose) Rardon of Lafayette, Mrs. Earl (Julia) Gilbert of Fruitland Park, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Datzman of Fowler; and 13 grandchildren.

two brother and a sister preceded him in death.
