Brown (MCSN: 0-12945), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry in action while serving with the Fourth Marine Raider Battalion at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 1 July 1943. While in command of a patrol of fifty men he aggressively attacked a hostile patrol of superior strength, eliminated twenty of the enemy, and successfully drove the remainder from their positions.
