Services to celebrate Leslie's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Oak Grove Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Debra Edward officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home Fireside Chapel. Interment with the "Flight Home" Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Leslie was born on Jan. 13, 1923, in White County, Illinois, a son of Jerry M. and Anna B. (Wimpleberger) Wooten. He married Opal Nadyne Garwood on March 30, 1946, in Carmi.
From 1940-1942 he was employed by the Ashland Oil Company as a gauger. In 1943, Leslie joined the Army and served in the 9th Armored Infantry in the World War II Rhineland Central European Theatre where he achieved the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. In 1951 Les founded the Oak Grove Church of the Nazarene, where he served as pastor until his retirement on July 27, 1997.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nadyne; four children, David, Donna, Danny and Debbie; seven grandchildren, Jamie Pohlman, Jed, Jacob, Josiah and Jonathan Wooten, Timothy and Nathaniel Hall; and five great-grandchildren, Courtney Hall, Mackenzie and Brynlee Pohlman, and Colby and Caitlyn Wooten.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; three sisters, Iona Brown, Florence Hamblin and Pearl Rushing Brown; and five brothers, Cash, Jerry, Matthew, John and Albert.
