Mrs. Helen Martin Sweat, 87, passed away Monday morning (March 10, 2008) at Pierce County Nursing Home following a long illness.
She was born in Providence, RI and was a resident of St. Augustine, FL for many years prior to moving to the Waycross area in 1986. She was the wife of a retired Navy Sailor and lived in many areas inside and outside of the United States prior to her husband's retirement.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 51 years, Earl Sweat, who was a native of Dixie Union; her parents, Edwin and Teresa Kirby Martin of Providence, RI; her mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Mamie Sweat of Waycross; two brothers, Edwin and Albert Martin of California; a sister, Mary Prunty of Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Bernice Sweat of Blackshear, and Jessie and Carrie Crawford of Waycross; and a great grandson, Canaan of Illinois.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Sweat (wife Jewell) and Randy Sweat (wife Sandy) both of Waycross; two daughters, Janet Boyd (husband Danny) of Waycross, and Joanne Gomez (husband Jose) of Orange Park, FL; one sister, Peggy Giagrande of Providence, RI; 13 grandchildren, 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2008) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hephzibah Cemetery in Dixie Union. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
