Joel Joseph Taylor, the son of Garrard Banks Taylor and Nancy Stearling (who were originally of Garrard County, Kentucky and Trimble County, Kentucky respectively), was born on May 27, 1853 in Butler County, Kentucky. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Bettie" Embry Taylor, the daughter of Dalton Mason Embry and Elizabeth "Bettie" (Embry) Embry of Butler County. At the time of the 1880 Census they were living in Renfrow, Butler County with their two oldes children, Collins P. and Magnolia S, the wife of James Owen Zachery. Children born after 1880 were: Jesse, Asa D. and Leonia Taylor, the wife of Charlie Johnson. His wife Bettie died on November 29. 1917 in Grayson County and was buried in the Caneyville Cemetery in Caneyville, Grayson County, Kentucky. He joined her there 25 years later after his death on November 30, 1942. He was buried as Joseph J. Taylor and shares the same stone with his wife.
