Samuel Kennerly, the son of James and Elizabeth Winston (James) Kennerly, and husband of Mary Talbot Hancock, died on Monday, 3 Feb, 1840 at the home of his son, George Hancock Kennerly. His obituary read, "Farewell to thee, old soldier!"
