MARGIE MAY JOHNSON GILL ALLMAND

Margie May Johnson Allmand, 97, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, in an Abilene nursing center.

Services will be October 5 in Ovalo Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Rake officiating.

Burial will be in Tuscola Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

The oldest of seven children, Margie was born June 16, 1906, to Dr. Walter and Ida Armenta Ellis Johnson in Abilene.

She married C. W. "Charlie" Allmand December 18, 1927, in Abilene.

The Allmands raised five sons who helped run the family farm, store and gas station in Grassbur in South Taylor County.

In 1948 they moved their home and store to Ovalo, where they also raised miniature horses. She helped Charlie and the grand kids dress up in parade clothes for parades and enumerable Shetland pony shows.

She was a member of Ovalo Baptist Church and Ovalo Home Demonstration Club.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charlie, in 1998; three sons, J. O. Gill and Cecil and Floyd Allmand; and four brothers, Walter, Chestley, Raymond and Clarence Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, Gene and wife Betty Allmand of Henrietta and J. W. and wife Leola Allmand of Ovalo; two sisters, Leara Otha McCormick of Bakersfield, California and Odessa Jackson of Sacramento, California; one dauther-in-law, Loys Allmand Little of Abilene; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
