GORKA - Joseph Francis, 99, of Johnstown passed away at the Allegheny Lutheran Home, on April 3, 2023. Born February 19, 1924 in Johnstown, son of George and Katherine (Wesel) Gorka. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Anna Marie (Ditko) Gorka; brothers, Francis, Andrew, Stanley and John Kleczek; sisters, Bertha Stefanik and Ann Marsaro. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by children, Thomas and Timothy (Diane Murray), of Johnstown; and grandchildren, Adam, Aaron and Maria Gorka. Joe served his country, in the Army, during World War II. He then worked at the Franklin and Lower Cambria Divisions of Bethlehem Steel Corp. until retiring. In his earlier years, he experienced many pleasurable days afield as an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing the Daily Number Lottery and watching the local sports teams (Pirates and Steelers) on television. Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, listening to their exploits and following all of their endeavors. He was a member of the former SS Casimir and Emerich Catholic Church and member of the Resurrection Parish. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Allegheny Lutheran Home and 365 Hospice, for their care and compassion. Friends received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, the Rev. George Gulash. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery, where VFW Post 155 Ritual Team will hold honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Joe's name, to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent at fgozogfuneralhome.com
