Doris Emery Spencer, 97, of Beverly MA passed away October 3, 2020. Born in Bar Harbor, Maine July 14, 1923, the daughter to the late Newell W. and Ida M. (Paine) Emery both from Bar Harbor. She was a resident of Beverly MA for 50 years and a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody for the past 20 years.

At Bar Harbor High School, Doris was a member of the National Honor Society, the French Club and YWCA Girl Reserves. At her commencement she delivered an honors essay on "Science: Its Cultural Contribution" and was awarded a scholarship covering a year's tuition at University of Maine. While there, Doris was a class officer, Sophomore Eagle, Chairman of the Assembly Committee, member of the Glee Club and played field hockey. She was also a member of Chi Omega sorority and elected to the Neai Mathatai Society, awarded to the top ten women for academic achievement. UMaine Class of 1945.

Following graduation, she was a Psychology and Dietician Instructor at UMaine Machias. After marrying (3 Sep 1946 in Maine), she stayed home for sixteen years to be with her three daughters. She kept busy in Beverly with activities at her church as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and member of the Scholarship Committee. She was a Girl Scout leader and took her scouts to Washington D.C. She was a member of the Greater Beverly College Club and served on the Board of the American University Woman as well as the U Maine Alumni council, receiving their Block M award for service. She taught in the Beverly Elementary Schools for 23 years and received an award from Wheelabrator-Frye that appeared in Fortune magazine for being an extraordinary teacher. After retiring, Doris served on the Board of the Beverly Retired Teachers Association. She loved her time at Brooksby Village as one of the original residents, hosting tours and TV shows, and being with her many wonderful friends.

She was married 54 years to her loving husband Frank W. Spencer of Orono, Maine who passed away after a ten-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She is survived by her 3 daughters - Jacalyn and husband William Mitchell of Newfields, NH and granddaughter Christine Butterworth Sieks and husband Dave of Dover NH and great grandsons Declan and Finn and grandson Mark Spencer Butterworth and wife Amy of Topsfield, MA and great grandsons Spencer and Graham. Daughter Wendy Spencer Cotter of Beverly MA and grandson Travis Davison and partner Lisa Diaz of Altadena CA, grandson Todd Davison and great grandson Ryder, grandson Bryan Davison of Beverly, MA. Daughter Barbara Politis and husband John of North Kingstown, RI and grandson James and wife Hayley Politis of Windham, NH and great granddaughters Eleni and Callista and grandson Dr. Michael Politis of San Francisco, CA.
