Joe A. Taylor Sr.

Joe A. Taylor Sr., 73, of Bryan, formerly of Thorndale, died July 29 at his home in Bryan. Funeral services were held Aug. 1 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with the Rev. Kenneth Rhodes of Somerville officiating. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood.

Taylor was born Aug. 17, 1930 in Thorndale to Oscar and Zadie Mae (Stewart) Taylor. He married LaVon Smith on July 10, 1954 in Lexington. He drove and owned his own truck and hauled containers. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and served two years during the Korean War and six years in the reserves. Taylor attended the Conoley Church in the Conoley Community near Thorndale.

He was preceded in death by his brothers J. O. and Ralph Taylor and a sister Vangelee Fuessel.

Taylor is survived by his wife, LaVon Taylor of Bryan; son Joe Taylor Jr. and wife Nikki of Katy; daughters Wanda Wagnon and husband Robert of Bryan, Terry Simmons and husband Jimmy of Cleveland and Stacy Scott and husband James of Bryan; grandchildren Stephanie, Hank, Randy, Tayna, Brandon, Heath, Ashley, Dustin, Timothy, Abby, Andi and Joshua; great-grandchildren Jacob, Kimberly, Mary, Randy Jr., William, Bryson, Alana, Ava and Hank Jr.

Pall bearers were James Scott, Henry Fuessel, Richard Fuessel, Josh Osborn, Heath Simmons, Jimmy Simmons, Robert Wagnon, Randy Wagnon and Dustin Hickman.
