Donald Ray Hormuth left this earthly life on March 30, 2023, after suffering a stroke on March 15, 2023. He was born on February 27, 1942, to Milton and Alwine Helmke Hormuth in San Antonio, Texas.
Donald was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia, Texas. He graduated from La Vernia High School with 13 classmates in 1960 and continued that special relationship through the years. He attended Texas Lutheran College, graduating in 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education and obtained a Masters' degree from Northern Arizona University. He taught at Juan Seguin Elementary in Seguin, Texas for 4 years before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada where he taught elementary physical education until 1993 when he retired and then stayed for another 8 years as a substitute teacher.
Donald returned to La Vernia in 2004 to look after his parents who have preceded him in death along with his brother, Keith.
On January 8, 2011, he married a TLC classmate. He joined Shepherd King Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas and that became the center of many of their activities. They also connected with many of their TLC friends for happy times and enjoyed time with friends in the Doss community where each year he volunteered at the Doss Fish Fry.
A visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia, Texas on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Funeral service for Donald will be held on Tuesday, April 4,2023, 10:00 AM at Shepherd King Lutheran Church, 303 W. Ramsey Road, San Antonio, Texas 78216.
Interment will take place at 3:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Texas following the service on Tuesday.
