Robert Irving Rullman, 81, a resident of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, peacefully at home. A son of the late Elmer and Helen Rullman, he was born on April 24, 1941, in Oak Park, Ill.

He was a graduate of North Western University. He was on the swim team and was the university's school mascot. He was a Professor of Philosophy at Corning Community College.

He was an Eagle Scout and traveled around the world from 1959 to 1962 for the National Jamboree. He was an avid martial arts expert in jujitsu, earning a 4th degree black belt. He loved giving back to the community as an EMT and CASA worker. He had a love for gardening, cooking, music and puzzles.

His late beloved wife of 32 years, Susan Kay Rullman, were best friends. They always left little notes around the house for each other daily.

He had two daughters, Shelly Glavas and husband, Kosta Glavas, of Roanoke, Va., and Kristin Clemmons and husband, Jason Clemmons, of Auburndale, Fla.; grandchildren, Alexis Surface, Erica Staton, Morgan Glavas, Riley Glavas, and Landon Clemmons; eight great-grandchildren, Heston and Adalie Surface, Alyssa and Hunter Perkins, Brooklyn Linkous, Olivia, Bailey, and Kinsley Arnold; brother, Elmer Rullman and wife, Jody Rullman, of Illinois; brother, Charlie Rullman and wife, Linda Rullman, of Illinois; and sister, Martha Jennings of Illinois. He had several nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Alan Clark officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, 355 Rio Road West, Suite 102, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
