Pauline Mae Arias, 81, formerly of Alton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.

Pauline was born on May 25, 1926, in Roxana. She moved to the south Florida area in 1957. Pauline loved animals, snow skiing and socializing. She was an avid snow skier and was co-founder and past president of the Florida Ski Council and past president of the Miami Ski Club. Numerous articles had been written and published about Pauline and her indomitable spirit. She raced in the NASTAR National Championship races and in 2007 was awarded a gold medal, finishing in first place in the 80-year-old category. Pauline raged a valiant battle against cancer for over 25 years. She loved her family and many friends and lived her life with determination, optimism and faith in the Lord. Her passionate love for life overcame all earthly obstacles that got in her way.

She is survived by her loving husband, Vincent; her sister, Hilda Franz of Gulfport, Miss.; her children, Judith Henzlik of Greenville, Ill., and Mark Wickenhauser of Crossville, Ill.; her cherished grandchildren, Gina Casas of Greenville and Richard Inglima of Lee's Summit, Mo; three adoring great-grandchildren, Cathrine Casas, Dylan Casas and Hannah Inglima. Her shining light has gone out and she will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, where the Rev. Herbert H. Coates will officiate at services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11.

Burial will be at McInturff Cemetery.
