Frederick Norbert Hartings went to his eternal reward on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Fred was known as a dedicated husband and wonderful father. Fred was born at Riverside Methodist Hospital on August 30, 1945, the son of Norbert J. Hartings and Violet M. (Maseda) Hartings. He graduated from Bishop Hartley High School, and The Ohio State University, in 1968, with a degree in accounting. He served his country with the U.S. Army, in the Engineers, including a tour in Vietnam. When he returned home, he married Barbara E. Vano, and they raised two children, Joe and Kristen. Fred worked his entire career in the Defense Contracts Audit Agency, beginning as an auditor at Rockwell Intl. in Columbus, and as a DCAA Branch Manager in the Baltimore-Washington DC-Northern Virginia region and finally in Southwestern Ohio. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Norbert, and several aunt, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his mother Violet; Barb, his wife of 52 years; son Joseph, his spouse Lauren, and their daughter Jocelyn; daughter Kristen and her husband Van Easterday, and their children, Jasmine and Evan. Fred is also survived by his sister, Marina Thomas-Fortkamp and several cousins. Viewing will be Sunday, April 2 from 3 until 5 pm at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 E. Broad St., Columbus. Funeral Mass will commence at 10 am Monday, April 3 at Christ the King Church, 2777 E. Livingston Ave., followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Etna, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Licking County Humane Society, Newark, OH or St. Jude Children's Research Center, Memphis TM
