News-Xpress, Friday, March23, 1997 - "Eleanor Lynch Stephenson, 102, Butler, Mo., died March 15, 1997, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. Prior to her hospitalization, she had been a resident at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Butler. Contributions may be made to the Museum of Pioneer History in her memory. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Underwood- Steinbeck Funeral Home. Services were held March 18, at the Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home in Butler with Rev. Kip Leitner officiating, with burial among other family members at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Stephenson was born Sept. 26, 1894, of a prominent Boston family who moved to Butler when she was 3 years old. She was educated in the Butler schools, then attended Loretta Academy in Kansas City, Mo., which was a private school for girls. From there she studied music (voice) in Chicago. Here she met and married Hugh Stephenson and together they traveled all over the world. Later upon returning to Butler, she made her home with her parents, Major G.I. Lynch and Ella Smith Lynch. Her remaining years in Butler were devoted to the Butler Music Club and to the Museum of Pioneer History, where she served until the age of 90 as hostess and guide. In 1972, she received the individual Award of Parade of American Music from the National Federation of Music Clubs and was also given the Citizen of the Year award of Butler. Preceding in death were her parents, and 8-year-old brother, Robert, another brother, Walter Lynch, and a sister, Mildred Donahue. She leaves one nephew, Barney Pierce of Cartersville, Ga.; and three great nephews, Todd, Mark and Craig, and one great niece, Cynthia."
She married Hugh Robert Stephenson, age 26, on June 23, 1923, in Jackson County, MO.
He was actually age 25.
