Elvera Jane Kemper, 73, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at her home in Newton.

She was born Jan. 12, 1928, to Peter H. and Lena (Wedel) Jantz in Montezuma. They preceded her in death. She married Jack D. Kemper May 10, 1961, in Carlsbad, N.M. He survives.

She was a member of Halstead Baptist Church. She enjoyed yard work and feeding birds and squirrels. She also collected ceramic cat figurines.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Deborah J. Conner of Hillsboro; a son, David M. Kemper of Newton; two brothers, Dalin Jantz of Buena Vista, Colo., and Verlin Jantz of Haxtun, Colo.; six sisters, Neola Anderson of Freemont, Calif., Verene Eason of Newton, Evelyn Lofgren of Quinlin, Texas, Lillian May of Hillsboro, Inez Parker of Pueblo, Colo., and Sadie Soukup of Waco, Texas; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Roger Erickston officiating.

Memorials have been established with the Newton Area Senior Center, Halstead Baptist Church and Central Homecare and Hospice, all in care of the funeral home
