Longtime Alaskan and Homer resident Jasper J. Carroll, 72, died June 27 at South Peninsula Hospital. A funeral was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, East End Road in Homer. Bishop James Ballentine officiated. Interment was in Hickerson Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Carroll was born June 24, 1921, in Kanab, Utah, to Almon Carroll and Minnie Henderson. He married Arva Barton on June 20, 1940, in Las Vegas. He came to Alaska in 1941. He worked at telephone and utility companies in Fairbanks and Wrangell and was head of the power and water company in Seward until moving to Homer in 1958. Mr. Carroll was a pilot and guide and owned Homer Air Service for 13 years. He later ran the fuel dock in the Homer Harbor and the Sunny Chevron service in Homer until retiring in 1978.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Arva; his sons, J.J., Glen and Al, all of Homer, and Ross of Victoria, Texas; his daughters, Nerda of Poway, Calif., and Mary of Orem, Utah; his brothers, Claude of Centralia, Wash., and Art of Fairbanks; his sister and brother-in-law, Loa and Jay Maxwell of Paul, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Homer Funeral Home.
