Borough Council. WEST STREET - Mr Sedman Ashton wrote asking that something be done to the roadway on West Street. He said it is nearly impossible to get either up or down with a load of material. He also asked the Council to cut a cart track so as to give access to the beach at the lower end; if so he would give a hand with the job and would pay for any filling there is to spare

Amy died here on 28 Feb 1943. Sedman returned to NZ in 1946 with his sister Mabel Ashton (1892-1980) who kept house for him in Pongakawa until his death. He died 5 March 1961 aged 80 on his farm in Waihi, Waikato, when his tractor flipped and rolled on top of him. He is buried Waihi cemetery
