He was raised mostly in Hurricane, with a few years in Fredonia and St. George, and his beloved Antelope, the family homestead on the Arizona Strip. As a child and youth, summers and most weekends he spent with his brother, Rondo, at Antelope taking care of livestock, watering gardens when flash floods came, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the desert. He loved horses and trained some of the mustangs they caught.
He had several professions, his favorite being a rancher, which he continued all his life. He was also Hurricane City's first full time police officer. A few years later, he bought a laundry and dry-cleaning business which he owned and operated for many years. He also had an excellent reputation as a skillful dynamiter and climbed into the tallest trees to knock the pecans down for himself and many others. He tended and took good care of their vegetable garden and fruit trees. He was a great example of industry and thrift.
He was a great elocutionist, entertaining many with his numerous readings. He spent many years working in the church in different callings. Some of his callings were Stake Sunday School Presidency, High Council, High Priest Group Leader, and High Priest Instructor.
His greatest love was his wife, Nola, and their children and grandchildren, whom he took great joy from and often remarked that "I feel I am almost sinful, I am so proud of all my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, they are all so beautiful and good."
He is survived by his wife, Nola, of Hurricane; his children - Karen (David) Harman of Orem; Devin (Bonnie) Ruesch of Hurricane; Gay (Ray) Martin of Santaquin; Rhonda (Jim) Martin of Mesa, Arizona; Joyce (Ken) Smith of La Verkin; Debbie (Phil) Jensen of La Verkin; Dale William of Reno, Nevada; and former wife, Anna Evans. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and his sister, Zona Ruesch Wright of Hurricane.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rondo Ruesch; sister, Joy Ruesch Jordan; sister, Rosel Ruesch Seastrand; a son, Phil George Ruesch; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Red Brick Chapel, 274 S. 100 W. in Hurricane. Interment will take place in the Hurricane City Cemetery.
