Elisabeth Curtis was the the 4th of 5 known children of Anthony Curtis 1777-1861 of Alexandria VA, and Deborah (Debby) Cook c1795-1857 of Delaware. She was born in Philadelphia at 62 (now 326) Gaskill St. in Philadelphia. She died of Bright's Disease at 578 S. 15th St. in Philadelphia and was buried at Merion Cemetery in the Philadelphia suburb of Bala Cynwyd PA on 23 Aug 1901.

Elisabeth was married to social reformer and abolitionist John Emery Burr at St. Thomas African Episcopal Church on 19 Dec 1839, by Rev. William Douglas. She and her husband had two children:

-Letitia Curtis Burr 1840-1870 (married Clifton J. Houston of SC b. 1839)
-Raymond Johnson Burr 1842-1924 (married Emma Jackson 1844-1921)
