U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Michael B. Murdoch (Retired), 69, passed away on March 21, 2023.
He was born in Landstuhl, Germany to the late Betty and W. Crawford Murdoch, Jr.
Mike graduated from Hershey High School in 1971, received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1975, and a Master of Science Degree from Boston University in 1985.
Following completion of U.S. Air Force Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, he was assigned to numerous flying and staff positions in the United States and abroad - including assignments as a Check Pilot and as the Commander of a Combat Airlift Training Squadron. He retired from the U.S.A.F. as a Lieutenant Colonel in August 1996 after twenty-one years of service.
In September 1999, Mike joined Spirit Airlines where he achieved the rank of Airbus Captain in the A-321 aircraft, a position held until his retirement in 2018.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Christopher Murdoch of Hershey.
Mike is survived by his daughter: Erin Murdoch of Hershey; his granddaughter: Matilda Murdoch of New York City; his sister: Gale D'Aurio of Hershey; his brothers: W. Crawford (Marian) Murdoch III of Florida and Steve (Connie) of Colorado; and, his nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in Hoover Funeral Home, Hershey.
Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 02:00 PM.
