David Franklin Mathews, 80, peacefully passed away in the early morning of March 11 at his home in Sherwood. He was born in Sheridan on November 19, 1942 to the late Robert G. and Pearl V. Mathews.

Dave graduated from Sheridan High School. After high school, he joined the Arkansas National Guard and attained the rank of Sergeant. Dave played the drums in many bands starting at the age of 15. His first band was The Playboys. He played throughout most of his life at parties and country clubs. Drumming was one of his favorite things to do.

Dave also worked at Noland Co., Winnelson and Consolidated Pipe. He had a love for fishing, even though he didn't catch much. He always enjoyed being on a boat and throwing in a line.

In 1976, Dave met his wife, Barbara. They were married three months after they met. They have been married almost 47 years. She was the absolute love of his life!

In addition to Dave's parents, Robert and Pearl Mathews, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Mathews and Jim Mathews; his sisters, Kay Powell and Dot Puckett.

Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara June Mathews; his daughter, Tammy Denise Dulin (Michael) and his grandchildren, Charles Dulin, Abigail Dulin and Oliver Dulin. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Parsley and his many nieces and nephews.

Dave's ashes will be laid to rest in his hometown of Sheridan, next to his father and mother.

Visitation will be at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
