After graduating from The Pingry School (Basking Ridge, NJ) and Colgate University, Baldwin attended graduate school the Pratt Institute. After working for a number of years on Wall Street and later as a lobsterman, he purchased the general store in Port Clyde, Maine. Baldwin was a passenger aboard the ill-fated Downeast Airlines Flight 46 that crashed in Owls Head, ME.
