Daughter of Melinda Fishel and James Whitaker Sr.

Martha's mother died when Martha was about 8 years old and she was living with her father and step mother, Nancy Woodland, in Illinois when her family was preparing to travel to the Great Salt Lake Valley with members of the LDS Church.

She met and married Jefferson Abel Tull 2 March 1848 at Hancock County Illinois.

Her family moved on to Council Bluffs, Iowa about the time she had her first son, James S. Tull. She and Jefferson Tull had remained in Hancock County, Illinois and had another son, William, in 1853.

She and Tull divorced about 1858; he married in 1862 to Cynthia Ann Freeman at Henry Iowa.

Martha had remained at Hancock County and married 11 October 1859 to John Harding Woodland, who had been twice widowed and had a 17 year old daughter.

They had two sons together: Aurther St. Clair Woodworth 1861-1901, and George Dyer Woodworth 1865-1940. Martha died when her youngest son was just 4 years old.

Woodworth married a 4th time five months later, and by 1873 had two more daughters to raise, along with his and Martha's sons.
