Joan Hastings, of Sunapee, NH, died at her home on March 18, 2023. She was born in Sunapee on February 12, 1940, the second daughter of two children to Eino and Helga (Haverinen) Anderson.

She graduated valedictorian of her class, which consisted of 9 other classmates. On October 3, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart Richard J. Hastings that she met at the First Baptist Church in Newport, NH.

She and her husband, of 54 years, spent the majority of their married life in Marlborough, Massachusetts. She worked as a secretary for the Shrewsbury School District Superintendant till her retirement in 1995. Upon retirement, they worked together to build their home in Sunapee.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she played the organ, when she returned to the Sunapee area. She also substituted for the Goshen Community Church in Goshen and the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist Church in Newport.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2013 and her sister Judith (Anderson) Charon in 2005.

Her surviving family include her son John Hastings, and his wife Rebecca of Newport, NH, son Robert Hastings, and his wife Keishya Salko of Punta Santiago, Puerto Rico, and son Timothy Hastings of Weare, NH and his children Sarah Porter and her husband Mike of South Paris, ME, Chelsea Olivera and her husband Cody of Concord, NH, Justin Hastings and his wife Cassidy of Bonne Terre, MO, and Joshua Hastings and his wife Danica of Goffstown, NH; seven nieces and nephews and their spouses, and several great nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in late May.
