For seven-seasons (1973 to 1978 and 1979 to 1980), he played at the center position in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, California Golden Seals/Cleveland Barons and Philadelphia Flyers. Born David Calvin Gardner, his father was professional hockey player Calvin 'Cal' Gardner. Dave began his career with the St. Michael's Buzzers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, prior to his promotion to the NHL during the 1972-1973 season with the Montreal team who won the Stanley Cup (1973). In 350 career regular season games, he compiled 75 goals and 115 assists. Gardner went on to extend his professional career in Switzerland. His younger brother Paul Gardner was also a professional hockey player.
