Doris was a 1951 graduate of Miller R-III in Tuscumbia. She worked for Southwestern Bell from July, 1955 until her retirement after 28 years of service in May, 1983. Doris was a member of the Tuscumbia Christian Church and lived, worked, and hobby farmed the area most of her life. Always one for an adventure, Doris was able to travel to and explore 49 of the 50 States. Alaska eluded her. She and husband Ronald were RV'ers and spent many winters in Texas and summers in Branson in their many 5th wheels and one new motorhome. An avid reader, Doris would challenge herself to read 52 books/novels per year for many years until her eyesight became prohibitive.
She is survived by her son: Thomas Abbett of Eldon; her daughter in law, Linda Abbett; bonus daughters: Rhonda Simmons (Hickey) and Paula Koerner (Hickey) 4 Grandchildren, Tabatha, Angel, Chris and Darrin and 7 Bonus Grandchildren, Michelle, Laura, Meghan, Emily, Morgan, Ashley and Brant as well as numerous Nieces, Nephews and Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband James Alfred (Al) Abbett and 2nd husband Ronald Allen Hickey; her sons: Randy Lee Abbett and James Douglas Abbett and bonus Son, Bruce Allen Hickey. Siblings "Bud" Hendry, Betty Roark and Dick Hendry and Niece Bobbie Lee Roark.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Millard Family Cremation & Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will immediately follow with Pastor Matt Harenza officiating. Doris will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Tuscumbia.
