Rev. A. M. Cartledge of Edgefield District SC note: "SOLOMON NEWSOM was born between 1715 and 1720 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. in 1741 Solomon Newsom married Martha Mathews, daughter of Hugh Matthews. The period of 1741 to 1746 saw Solomon purchasing and accumulating lands in Isle of Wright County Virginia. Then in 1746, Solomon Newsom sold all of his land holdings and shortly thereafter moved his family to Brunswick County Virginia. The stay in Brunswick County where he lived a relatively short time, for in 1752 Solomon sold most of his families possessions and ventured further south showing up in Granville County South Carolina in 1756. He remained in the Granville County SC area (probably what was Edgefield District and now McCormick Co SC) until his emigration to Wilkes County, Georgia in 1774. Solomon Newsom died in Warren County, Georgia in 1795."

Several things to note.
1. The Will of Solomon Newsom was listed in Wilkes County, GA will book DD, p. 33. All but the index was destroyed. 4 Oct 1790 -inventory 1795
2. Solomon's daughter Olive born 1746 when Solomon was 31 years old married Evan Morgan who lived on Stevens/Stephens Creek Old 96th District (later Edgefield Dist) South Carolina, next door to John Hardy of Isle of Wight/Lunenburg Co VA. They all lived in New Richmond SC near the Savannah River on Stevens Creek. Olive Newsom married Evan Morgan while her father lived in South Carolina between 1756 and 1774. Evan Morgan was still in North Carolina in 1756 and perhaps as late as 1760. His brother Thomas Morgan was in the Newberry section of Old 96th Dist SC. Olive Newsome was probably married by 1764- but somewhere between 1762 and 1766 while the Newsome and Morgan families were neighbors on Stevens Creek. There is a record in PA of an Olive Newsom marrying an Evan Morgan 1766- if it is actually the same couple living in South Carolina, the record was probably carried north and registered by Evan Morgan's numerous traveling primitive Baptist preacher relatives. The John Hardy family (neighbors of Evan Morgan and Solomon Newsom) had a cabin used for preaching and services. Later it was formalized as Hardy's Chapel, now in North Augusta SC.
