"Ex-City Resident Passes at Salem.
Minnie Ethel Newton, 76, a resident of Salem, passed away Tuesday afternoon at her home following an extended illness.
The daughter of Thomas H. and Mary Cooper, she was born January 1, 1878 in Corvallis. On October 21, 1900, she was married to Emery J. Newton here and the couple lived on a farm in the Plymouth community until 1906 when they moved into Corvallis. They lived here until 1935 when they moved to Salem to make their home.
She became a member of the Congregational church in Corvallis in 1896.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. George K. Smartt, Los Angeles; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. A son, Glenville Newton, was killed at Fort Lewis during World War II and there were two daughters who passed away in early childhood.
Funeral services will be held at the Mayflower Chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. under the direction of the DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Bulkley will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Union cemetery."
