Elmer A. Meyer, 95 formerly of Ada, and now a resident at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls, died Sunday morning March 2, 2008 at St. Nicholas Hospital.

He was born October 18, 1912 in North Dakota. When he was about 2 years old, Elmer's parents Robert and Alma [Semph], returned to the Meyer homestead in WI, at Spring Corners in Town Herman, where they raised 4 children. Elmer graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan.

Elmer married Lucille [Kissinger] on June 28, 1941in the St. John's Church Parsonage [Schwarzwald].

They moved to the Village of Ada in 1951 where they lived until 2001.

Elmer worked for 35 years at the Kohler Company and remained an active member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. He was a long time member of the Ada Fire Department during which time he served as their treasurer, assistant fire chief and also completed Civil Defense Training in the 1950's.

He and Lucille were active members at St. John's Church belonging to the Men's Brotherhood and Women's Guild. Elmer was on the cemetery board and served as a Deacon and an Elder. He also was a member of the board at Washington Grade School in Ada.

Elmer graciously shared his time & talents with everyone he knew. His quick wit and joy in telling a funny story was known by all. Elmer could figure out a way to fix anything broken and was an avid gardener. For many years the raspberries from Meyer's backyard were sold locally and as far away as Milwaukee. Elmer and Lucille belonged to a variety of card clubs. He often enjoyed a lively game of Sheepshead [Schafkoph] at home and at work. While living at Pine Haven you could find him playing Skat in the day room nearly every day at 3:00 p.m.

Approximately 130 friends and family attended an open house for Elmer's 95th birthday on a warm sunny day in October 2007.

Elmer is survived by his sister Adeline [Kolb-Cleveland] and sisters-in-law Irene [Kissinger-Elkhart Lake] and Jeannette [Kissinger-Plymouth]; his daughters Joan [Ehrenreich-Mosinee] and Nancy [Guenther-Pardeeville] and son-in-law Gerry Guenther [Pardeeville]; his grandchildren Kyle Ehrenreich [Abita Springs, LA] & Kevin Ehrenreich [San Francisco, CA] and Joel Guenther [Berkeley, CA] & Emily Guenther [Grinnell, Iowa]. Kevin is engaged to marry Kim Nguyen.

Elmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Willard Meyer and an infant sister, Dorothy; and also in-laws, Harold Kolb, Allen Kissinger, Elroy Kissinger, Elmer Boll, Evelyn Boll and Elvera Meyer and nephew Jerome Meyer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 6, 2008 at St. John's UCC Church, W3401 Orchard Road Elkhart Lake [Schwarzwald] with visitation beginning at the church at 11:00 a.m. until the service. The Reverend Rebecca Johnston will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
