Yerby dropped the Barney and just used Cassel after the Civil War, though other members of the family kept the name. He was the son of Frances and Anna Keller Barneycastle. He married Aurelia Ebert, who is buried at Union Ridge with their son, Robert. Yearby enlisted 1861 21st Inf, Co K, age 30, mustered in as Sergeant, promoted to Ord. Sgt., Nov 1861, and transferred to field and staff. He was presenst at hte battle of Gettysburg. He was wounded at battle of Winchester May 1862, gunshot wound to shoulder, spent 6 months in field hospitals in Virginia, returned to duty 1863. He was present at the surrender at Appomattox, and was paroled at Appomattox Court House April 9, 1865 along with two of his brothers. He fought in most of the major battles, brother Ephraim fought with him in the 21st regiment until transferred to 9th Battalion. Yerby buried in same cemetery as his parents, uncle Peter, cousin Henry White, aunt Esther White, and young son Richard.
