Mr. Hockersmith was a lifelong resident of Benton and a graduate of Benton public schools. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Methodist Church. He had been a city alderman here for a number of years.
He was employed by the Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company for several years and at the time of his death was office manager and co-owner of the Benton Plumbing Company. He was a former district manager of the Metropolitan Insurance Company. He was a member of the Benton Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Jean Hathcoat Hockersmith; two sons, Mike and Tim Hockersmith of Benton; a daughter, Joyce Hockersmith of Benton; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Hockersmith of Benton; and a brother, James Lee Hockersmith of Texas.
Funeral was Tuesday by Ashby Funeral Service. Burial was at New Rosemont Cemetery. (from the Benton Courier, Thursday, July 28, 1960)
