Susie M. Carter Tatum, 87, of Waycross died Tuesday morning (March 4, 2008) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness. She was born on Billy's Island in the Okefenokee Swamp and moved to Waycross when she married. She was a seamstress. Her parents were the late Tom Carter and Susie Craven Carter.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Davis Layton Tatum; four sisters Nola Mizell, Becky Carter, Louise Hendrix and Alice Dixon; three brothers, John Carter, Joe Carter and Charles "Bud" Carter.
Survivors include two sons, David Tatum (Mary), Homerville, Larry Tatum (Lea), Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Jack Carter, Fernandina Beach, FL, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 am at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
